As a student from another country, I come to understand how it would feel to leave your home country and move to another place, where you don’t know anybody and nothing or no one to rely on. It is also difficult to go somewhere and have to have to learn a completely new language. The United States has a different culture that is not always similar to foreign cultures. The hardest part is being away from family (a strong, reliable support system) and friends. Immigrating to the United States is much easier when you have people that understand your situation, usually because they’re in the same position. I think isolation groups (like the Vietnamese in the east) can become a necessity for certain people; it is an answer to a situation that they had to solve when they came. It is not necessarily a good or bad idea, but more of a comfort zone.

For me the best part of the church was this, the altar. In some way made me think about how symbols are always what put the believes together no matter where those believes are come from.

Immigrant in the United States

I'm an immigrant in the United States. At the beginning I came to the Untied States. I didn't understand this and that. It was so difficult for me to live in New Orleans. I should adapt the time, the weather, the life, everything. It was so strange for me to see the Americans did the usual things. I come from China, I have my own culture, which has a lot of different from the American culture. So, it was difficult for Italian Americans, Hondurans, Irish Americans, and German Americans to adapt the American culture. I believe they took quite a while to understand and adapt, finally used to live in the Untied States. Personally, It's much easier to live with a group people, who have the same culture with you in an different country. The Vietnamese Americans live in a big group in the east of New Orleans. Even they couldn't speak English well, they still can enjoy their life. I went to the Chinatown in Houston, it was so familiar for me to stay. Every people speak Chinese, even the policeman. I live in New Orleans much more  difficult than in Houston because we don't have a lot of Chinese people in New Orleans. We couldn't have fun with a lot of Chinese friends and have traditional Chinese foods. It's difficult to live in a different culture place by a few people.

Today, we went to the east of New Orleans, the Vietnam Church. It's a big church and we had experience about the Vietnam culture.

Immigrants

I remember my first day in United States very well. I was excited and happy about the opportunity to live in a country I have never been to. After a couple of months of being so far from home I started to feel little lonely and stressed. Not only because I left my family and friends, but also a cultural differences started to have a big impact on me. Each immigrant is experiencing alienation, that is a very common reaction while changing your own environment. That is why I do understand why immigrants are gathering within their own ethnic groups. It is easier for them to cope with cultural stress. At the same time they may cultivate their tradition while being away from their countries.

IMMIGRANT IN AMERICA

If I was an immigrant in America, I think that could be difficult to adapt to this new culture. French people don’t share the same objective and culture. We are not outgoing or don’t speak a lot, so American way of life could be interpret like rude. We give priority to healthy and good food unlike American. Moreover we have the same religious feast or almost and they are a lot of catholic too. However the language could be the most difficult barrier for French people and could be difficult to open your mind to other citizens.

I think it’s easier for foreign people to stay together because they share the same point of view or culture. But for the new generation, they want to open their mind to the American values because they elevated with American people.

war of world

I was in 1938 and I was 23 years. I was listening the broadcast. I stunned, when I heard that maybe the announcer could have seen a green extraterrestre.
At the beginning, I tough that will be a joke, but when I started to listen people cry. I was afraid of the possibility. So I took my bike and drove the faster i can to join my family at home. I arrived and asked them, if they have listen the radio show.
My parents and grand parents have seen my scared and white face. They let me speak during 5 minutes about what happened and after they started to laugh. I was surprise and I didn't understand why. Until my grand father told me, he was a huge fan of "War of World" book and the story on broadcast was just a big joke. I was so angry, because I believed on this story. this is the reason why , I asked them to tell me more about this book.

Radio show

If I was in 1938, I would believe in the radio show because there isn't internet and any other information to post it, so people just listen to radio show to see what happened in that time. Also, the radio show would be very clear to describe a war of the world. The radio show would use some boss music to add more truly. During the 1938, it already happened for a first war of the worlds. So people have enough reasons to believe that war of the worlds would happened again.

War of the Worlds.

If I were alive in 1938 for sure I would have believed the radio show War of the Worlds, because it was 1938 there’s no so much information about UFO, and If I didn’t listen it was a joke, I would have been scared like hell but at the same time I would have joined the army to fight again aliens.

Here is a little dialog of my reaction in the worst-case scenario.

Bridget! Bridget! I called my wife.

She came to me all grumpy; She was doing dinner for the kids and me.

What happen? Why you are so nervous?

Did you hear the broadcast in the radio station?

No what happened?

They said that the aliens arrived to the earth and they are attacking us.

Oh my God Fernando are you serious?

Yeah get the Kids I’ll leave you on yours mother’s house.

And what are you going to do? She asked me.

I’m getting my Winchester and ammo I’m going to join the army to fight again the invasion and kill some aliens.

War of Worlds

I will believe in this fake news report definitely. My reaction hmmm I think it will be kind of really weird reaction. I think it will look like that: When I was listening to this news I couldn’t believe about aliens attacking US, but when I heard people from government and police officers from another cities talking all the time about aliens and their attacks in the radio, I took my shotgun and the knife, and as fast I could, I ran to the neighbors to tell them about this terrifying story. When I came back, I barricaded in my house and I prepared for the worst scenario. I wasn’t sure if I can defend myself with a shotgun or knife, so I started to freak out. I started to hear strange sound, like somebody was walking around my home. I had to calm down and just think about evacuation in case that they will be here. I was so nervous that I took my whisky and I sat in front of the doors pointing my shotgun in every direction where I heard something strange. I was so nervous that soon I get drunk so bad that I just feel asleep.

The Andrew Jackson Hotel

Finally I've arrived! After a long trip I'm in New Orleans and luckily I found this hotel located at 919 Royal St in the heart of the French Quarter. I got this beautiful room in the second floor. I'm so tired, I better go to sleep, it's so late and tomorrow is going to be a long day!
Oh my god! what was that? It's 5:00am and I just felt something touching my back, so weird. I'm not sleepy any more, but wait I'm hearing something, are that children's laughing? at this time? I'm going to check.
Ok, it's 6:00am and nothings was going on outside, I heard the laugh but was nobody outside, not at the hallway nor at the inside garden. I did some research and found some interesting stuff. A long time ago this hotel was an all boy's school that burn and in the fire five children died, the ghosts of those children can be heard in this hotel, sometimes their laugh, sometimes their screams. If that is true luckily I heard the laughs! It's getting late for me to go shopping, my room is a mess but i'll clean it later, I have a long day to go!
I'm coming back from my day of shopping and what y found scared me. My room have been cleaned and this hotel doesn't have room service! As you can imagine i did some more research and I found some more interesting histories. This time is about one housekeeper that likes moving things inside the messy rooms. Well I don't think how that could be a bad thing, the only thing i ask is that she doesn't do it while i'm in the room!

After a great night at Bourbon Street finally i'm at my room ready to sleep, but i'm hearing the laughing again and the worse part is that i think that i saw something while i was walking to my room. Standing at the end of the hallway was this "shadow" with the head looking down and the arms tight in his back, that scared me, but what is scaring me more is that i'm hearing the laughs and some kind of deep screamings, i can't go to sleep. This is enough for me, I'm leaving this place.

My favorite house

Lalaurie House is my favorite house from all the haunted houses. This is the most haunted house in New Orleans and also it is the most top ten haunted house in the Untied States. The ghosts from the Lalaurie house wanted to tell us about the story. Delphine and her husband, Leonard are killers. They killed a lot of slaves in their house. The ghosts wanted to ask help from anyone to catch Delphine and Leonard back to New Orleans from French. Although the salves died and people found the truth, Delphine and Leonard still ran away and didn't get the Legal punishment. So, the ghosts would still in the house forever. Although they were salves, they worked for the owner, but they couldn't kill them. Of course, I world be scared. Yesterday, I just saw the movie, "Para Normal". I was a little scared, if I saw the ghosts, I would told them I knew Delphine and Leonard were bad people. I will tell all the people about them, so nobody would like them.

Jean Lafitte National Historical Park

We went to a swamp tour today, but unfortunately, we didn't see any alligator. Now, at the beginning of October, there are a lot of weeds in the river. The guide of the swamp tour told us that they would clean the weeds up at the beginning of December. It was a tired trip, but I still saw some natural animals, such as: snakes, lizard, spider, squirrels. The second picture, the big yellow spider was sleeping at that time. It didn't move until we left. There are a lot of lizards in Jean Lafitte National Historical Park. I saw several different kind of colors. The guide, who is a kind and helpful volunteer person, told me the lizards could changed their color. During the copulate season, the male lizards change their color to find the female lizards. Sometimes, the male lizards fight with the same male lizards, but they don't real fight a lot. I really enjoyed this swamp tour, hope I can see alligator next time.

The Backstreet Museum

The backstreet museum is a small house where you can see mardi gras costumes and funeral jazz information and their history and why they are like that.

The mardi gras indians are part of the parades and the

Traditions of the mardi gras, they are African American people who dress costumes that are influence by the Native

Americans.

These costumes are handmade and their made of feathers,

stones and cardboard and they take almost 1 year to make

them and they are really expensive. They are different

costumes for each person in the tribe they have the chief

costume the wife of the chief the flag boy who avoids who carry the flag of the tribe so the others tribes can see them.

Other thing that catch my attention was the north side bone gang, they are a group of people that

dress skeleton costumes during mardi gras and they go knocking door to door waking you up and

the chief is Bruce Sunpie Barnes.
